The Department of History synchronizes its existence with the establishment of the college in 1967.It is doing laudable for the welfare of Rural students from the day of its inception till date. Improvement of education, create sense, promote research inculcate self – confident, self reliance and career advancement are the goals of our department. It was one of the disciplines introduced initially at pre-university level and subsequently at degree level. The department of history since its inception has followed the course of study prepared by parent body. Major subject was introduced in the department since 1989. There is practically no direct involvement of our faculty in designing the curriculum. The department of the faculties also take active part in all extension and community development programmes such as popular talks, cultural and vocational workshop, programme on self employment conducted by the college within and outside the premises. Such planning and participation add further mobility to the teaching learning process. Students visiting different historical sites for making survey etc also add mobility to the teaching learning situations. Teaching Methodology : Basically the Faculty members follow the lecture method in the classroom with some innovative approaches. Group discussion, home assignment, seminar etc are occasionally organized to do away with the monotony of lecture delivery. Study materials are provided and synopsis of some difficult lessons are prepared and distributed.LCD projector and PPt are mostly used in some select classes. Field trips are also arranged for the students to facilitate their understanding of the socio economic and cultural aspects of the people.ICT classes are taken, PPt presentation by teachers with images and visuals, Whatsapp group, Google classroom, Screen casting etc. Learning resources of the department : The department of history is equipped with quite a few learning resources and expertise. Though not quite rich in collection of books, the department has around 200 books and also textbooks donated by ex-students and faculty members of the department for over all development of the department. The faculty members of the department are members of N.List of the college where he/she can access different e-resource materials and provide it to the students. Faculty Development programmes and involvement in activities: The department of History has been cooperating with the college authority in carrying out different extension and community development works within and outside the premise of college. Such activities ensure curriculum-extension interface and creates a healthy academic environment. The Faculty members of the department attend regularly the various faculty development programmes such as Refresher course, orientation course, workshop, popular talk, National and International seminar, conference etc Future Plan: In every academic session ( Even & Odd )semester, the department plans a strategy to be achieved by setting some future plans , the department foster to uplift and gain new heights by creating more exposure for the students of the department through historical tour, exchange programme etc. Department Vision : • To create awareness on Cultural heritage, maintain Archaeological monuments and environment. • The study of history will help the students to become good citizen, administrator, lawyer, politicians, writers , journalists and leaders. • To educate the students on social, economic and political trends that are happening at the National and International level. • To impart quality education in History to rural and economically weaker students. • To create interest to opt for History as a Major subject in higher education.
